Jim Loves' Ultimate Battle Fleet is the Palm OS version of an age-old classic and is available in Color and Grayscale versions.  UBF allows you to play against the Palm or another player on the same Palm or via IR beam.

Ultimate Battle Fleet adds many new features that have never been available in a "Battleship" type game.  UFB has the option of multiple shots in one round depending on the number of ships you have alive.  If your entire fleet is alive, you are allowed 9 shots in one round.  Lose a ship, lose some shots.  UBF allows you to choose between multiple fleet variations, from a lone sub to a fleet full of battleships!  There are three skill levels and you can also track your statistics as commander.

Personally, I found UBF a fun, challenging and somewhat addictive addition to my Palm.  I liked the animated explosions for each hit, but I turned off the “pix” feature, which shows navy photos between each shot.

I was unable to try the IR playing function, but on the Palm m505 OS 4.0, UBF seemed to work very well.  At a cost of $7.99 USD it's well worth the price.
