With Friends Like These...
It was a cold winter morning and just after I woke I already knew it was going to be a bad day.
by John JardineI was late for school and not prepared for the presentation I was supposed to present that day. As soon as I got to school I remembered that I had forgot to print out the presentation that I was to read! Luckily, I remembered it was backed up on my PalmVx, so I tried to borrow a teacher's hotsync cradle to get the information printed out, but had problems. I went into a panic, but eventually decided I could read straight off my Palm screen.
So, two periods went and lunch came, and I gave the Palm to a friend to read over, to ask his opinion on the presentation. After about five minutes he started grinning, and I was quite surprised since there was no humour in what I had shown him. After he gave me my Palm back it was turned off. I thought nothing of it and kept asking him what he found so funny. He kept repeating, "Nothing".
I got to class and then found out I was second to present. While the other student presented I was preparing my presentation. When I turned on my Palm I got a "Please enter you password" screen. At that moment I was thinking, "He wouldn't have.. Would he?", remembering I had shared the password with him earlier. I entered my password, and got "Incorrect Password". Hoping I had typed it in incorrectly I entered it in again. "Incorrect Password". Right after this screen popped up I heard clapping and noticed the other student sitting down.
The teacher then said to me, "John, we're waiting...."

Q: So what happened then?
A: Actually it was pretty terrible.. I just sat there for a while until I finally asked if I could present the next day. The teacher agreed but major marks were deducted. I felt like an idiot and it's even worse when you have friends that never let things go! But don't worry because I am plotting my revenge >:)
