Velcro and NiCads...need I say more?

Several drops onto concrete or hard floors from about waist high. In one case, when I had the slim case with the Velcro attachment, the memory door came off. In all cases, I thought I've lost all my data and possibly damaged the PalmPilot 1000, but I was able to turn it on and everything was fine. Just a few scratches and dents, that's all ...

The worst time was when I used NiCads and I didn't realize at the time that it had a big drop off when they went low. For a few weeks I had to restore all my apps and data every time the NiCads went low.
