Palm Envy
by Bruce Kahn

My wife has always wanted a Palm ever since I got mine 8 months ago.  Well her birthday is Aug. 27th, so I decided to hunt down a Palm IIIc, like the one I purchased for myself.  I found low pricing on the internet at different places, but all were out of stock (I realized later it was being discontinued).  Finally I tracked a new one down at a local Sears store.

Got home that night (this was 2 weeks before her birthday), and surprised her with her new Palm.

Sounds like a nothing story.  Well just wait...

Three days later, I say, "How's the Palm?", and she gives me a blank stare.  I ask again and she admits to me that she thinks she left the IIIc at her job, and the next day it was gone when she went back.  I could see that she was pretty upset; not only was it gift from me, but she always wanted one.

We made calls, she sent inter-office email, asking that if anyone finds it to please return it.

Will this turn out happy or not?

The next day (day 4) she gets a call from the public library.  Someone who works there found her Palm (luckily she had her name on the outside of the unit).  In retracing her steps the previous days, she forgot that she was at the library.  She profusely thanked the person who was honest enough to return it.

She now doesn't let it out of sight (short of wearing an attached handcuff).

And that's the G-D's honest truth!
