Close Call
by Paul D'Auvergne

The other day I almost dropped my two year old Palm III but managed to catch it (with my thumb on the screen...). Right after this I found that the screen would not respond to any pen inputs.

I did a number of hard resets, I removed the batteries & waited, nothing worked. So, with nothing to lose, I removed the back & started to have a look for something obvious, like a loose connection.

Meanwhile visions of going to Keating & paying $150 (which I would like to put towards my new Palm Vx) went through my mind! Anyway, I happened to replace the batteries with the back cover still off & discovered that the screen was responding again!! So I reassembled it & it has been working properly ever since.

Not really sure what the problem was, but it shows that the touch sensitive screen is everything to these devices, the buttons do not help much to navigate or input data.

Although this episode may not sound like much, it sure had me going!
