Car Troubles
by Bob Pfeiffer

My story starts with the fact that I keep my Palm in a Slipper V Wallet which is a nice leather case that doubles as a wallet. Just imagine a regular single fold wallet with the Palm on one side and a bunch of cards on the other.

One evening, I was on my way to the video store to return some DVDs that my wife and I had watched. I had my Palm Vx (in the wallet case) in my pants pocket. I have had issues with the track pants that I was wearing in that the pockets are a little shallow and the Palm can slip out when I sit down in certain chairs. So about half way into my 5 minute trip to the video store, I casually put my hand down to my pocket to make sure my Palm is there and I don't feel anything. A brief flash of panic hits me but goes away quickly because I think it's just fallen down beside the seat and I'll just reach down and get it. The panic starts to come back when I reach down and don't feel it right away and then it starts to grow when I realize that I can feel something but I can't pull it up to me.

I pull the car over to the side of the road so I can turn on the overhead light and when I look down, what do I see? Only half the wallet is actually inside the car. The other half is stuck (crushed) between the door and the frame. Panic is now in full force as I open the car door and gingerly pick up the wallet and take a look at it.

Luckily, when it fell out of my pocket, it fell with the "card" side down and then I closed the door on it. The Palm, in fact, was without a scratch, but I cannot say the same for my heart. Needless to say, I don't ever keep my Palm (now an m505) in those track pants pockets anymore.
