Topic - Hacks
Some people seem to shy away from Hacks simply because of their name. The term Hack was actually coined by the creator of Hackmaster, Edward Keyes, and are actually called System Extensions. In order to use a Hack, you need another piece of software on your Palm, a System Extension Manager. There are several System Extension Managers available, including the original, Hackmaster, the freeware X-Master, and the most versatile of them all, TealMaster.
System Extensions (Hacks) simply add functionality to the PalmOS that isn't already built in (thus extending the system!). These files run in the background while you do your work and simply "intercept" calls to the system and perform a task when needed. There are many hacks available for the Palm and Sean has created a 12 page list of the more popular and useful ones. The document can be found here in Microsoft Word format. This list is but a fraction of the available Hacks.
Sean highly recommends both TapPad and BatteryLog
TapPad is a protective overlay and software driver that adds a numeric keypad and common editing functions to the Graffiti area of any Palm OS device. With TapPad, often used operations like cut & paste, cursor movement, and backspace, as well as *forward delete*, are only a single tap away. Want to learn more? Click here.
BatteryLog will monitor the batteries in your handheld and give you an estimated date for their replacement, based on actual usage of your handheld. Features. Want to learn more? Click here.
