Topic - Open

As the summer is in full swing we decided to have a meeting with an open flow.  Sean brought a Parafone landline cordless phone device for the Handspring Visor.  This device, by Arkon, turns the Visor into a cordless phone.

Sean was provided several applications for review and true to form the PUG has responded with enthusiasm.  Nearly every application has already been snapped up, so the review should be rolling in soon.

Kenny Delaney gave a review of Handspring's First Canadian Event.

On May 17th 2001 Handspring held its first Canadian event @ the Steamwhistle Brewery, not far from the base of the CN Tower.

In addition to several folks from Handsprings head office, located in Mountain View California, Jim Mandala Handspring Inc. first Canadian based employee was introduced to the crowd of 200 plus in attendance.

Music filled the pub, played back from the MiniJam MP3 Player module hooked up to a set of speakers via a Handspring Visor.

The crowd was able to take all of the Handspring PDA's, including the new Visor Edge, for a test drive while using any of over forty springboard modules and accessories present.

A Handspring representative using the -Presenter-to-Go module and a Visor Edge presented Handsprings plans for the Canadian market.

In addition to Jim Mandala's appointment as Handspring's Director of Canadian Sales, Handspring will be expanding its Canadian sales channels by involving more retailers, Notably the whole line of Handspring PDA's will soon be available CompuCentre and CompuSmart retail locations.

The company also announced that Blazer, its fast new web browser for Palm OS-based handhelds is available immediately to Canadian customers online through Handango and Palmgear for approximately $29.95 Canadian.

Several questions were asked to Handspring about the future of the Visor Phone module. Handspring hopes to make an announcement in the near future and it is some they are working on as wireless connectivity is extremely important to Canadian strategy.

"Our mission, our future is wireless handheld computing," said Jim Mandala of Visor Canada

Its almost picnic time.  Can you believe that?  Almost a full year has gone by and it is time to start thinking picnic.  Kenny Delaney has once again offered to host the picnic (I think he wants to show off his new deck).  Sean will be sending out a general message with details.  So find those chairs, those secret picnic recipes and let's have some fun.
