Topics

New Venue

One main topic of conversation was the new venue for CanadaPUG's meetings. While the Pizza Hut ambience continues to be apropos to our genteel discussion groups, attendance has continued to be lower - surprisingly - than at the Burlington venue.

For a couple of people at the meetings the new venue was better. However, many of those from Toronto who had requested the change in venue, so as to be closer seem not to be attending. However, this may be because of the year-end, when there is a lot of work. Everyone decided to keep monitoring attendance impressions.

Cheap Springboards for Your Handspring Visor (c/o The Gadgeteer)

Hilarious fun! The Gadgeteer website has a collection of Springboards for those who are financially-challenged, which include the following:

1. Spare Change Springboard - Keep your spare change and folded bill in the empty springboard. 2. Post-It Springboard - Post-it Notes can be kept in this handy Springboard, to write notes on to those who are Palm-challenged. 3. Pillbox Springboard - For those who need their medication while on-the-go, this handy Springboard keeps you regular.

See the website for more fun! (There are pictures, too.)

Free-For-All Discussion

Sean handed out free beta CDs of Yodlee to go, which is a new price-comparison application using the Palm Query application.

Palm was just awarded the 6 millionth patent issued by the US Patent and Trademark Office. Well, that's some free publicity.

While a bit off-topic, people brought up Sony's robotic dog, Aibo, and how, despite the price tag, it has been an incredible hit. Lego Mindworks is a new kit that integrates robotics and Lego building blocks - fun! (Do you think anyone can rig up a Palm controller?)

Sean reported on a small stick-on keyboard to paste onto the Graffiti screen, produced in Asia. It looks very useful, and will be reported on in a future meeting.

Orders for the TRGpro compact flash-enabled Palm-compatible handheld are now being taken online!

Prizes

The prizes were determined by means of a blind draw from the garlic bread basket.

Future Topics

The following topics have been suggested for us to cover in the future:

- GPS (global positioning systems) - Health, diet and exercise - Wish lists for future Palm OS models

The officers, members, and everyone at Canada's Premier PUG would like to wish you the best of the season, and a very happy and prosperous New Millennium!

This being the Holiday season, Sean handed out gifts to everyone around from Santa. Well, actually, these were prizes donated by some incredible sponsors. We should make a note to specially thank Thinking Bytes, who have promised a prize for every month of the next year.

Respectfully,

Rob Bowen, Page Compiler, Canada's Premier PUG
Sam Peralta,
Scribe, Canada's Premier PUG
Sean D. Evans, President, Canada’s Premier PUG
