There was a death (of sorts) in the PUG family. Bryan Glaholm's Palm IIIe got run over by a golf cart. (We won't mention that it was Bryan who was driving though.) So to commemorate this sad loss we all took a moment of silence for our fallen comrade.
Sean brought some handouts from the Comdex show. A new O'Reilly catalogue for everyone. Remember PUG members get 20% off your purchases from O'Reilly. A vindigo postcard. Vindigo is a personal navigation tool—tell it where you are or where you're going and it can find the nearest and best places to eat, shop, and play. And a demo CD-ROM from IS complete. IS complete has a number of Palm applications most notably their line of IR apps (e.g. irprint).
Nicholas Hoh brought a Palm Vll and let everyone look at it. It was quite the attention getter and of course people were wondering when the network would be available in Canada. Oh! He brought one of those Pocket PC thingies too, but we didn't hold it against him.
Alan Adams spoke about an application called Word Complete. This application speeds up text entry and accuracy by offering a pop-up pick list of words once you have entered a few letters. For a more complete list of features go to PalmGear HQ or click here.
Rand McNally has snap-on GPS unit for the Palm III ($179.00) and Palm V ($199.00). With downloadable maps and the GPS how can you get lost again.
Pumatech has a very nifty application for the Palm. Browse-it a sophisticated transformation engine that turns HTML pages into live, interactive content uniquely reformatted for Palm-platform compatible handhelds. Web to the palm of your hand - without requiring re-authoring. Click here for more information.
Claudia Schiffer has her own special edition Palm Vx. Check out one of these articles for more information Yahoo article, CNet article or Salon article.
Kyle Poole, the creator of Kyle's Quest and Galactic Realms, is developing a new colour isometric view RPG game for the Palm. With a working name of Solskia this new game promises to be very exciting. The Wednesday meeting attendees were given a sneak preview of the application. The game made its way around the 22 attendees of the Wednesday meeting with plenty of oohs and ahs from everyone. Galactic Realms 2.0 (colour) was released on 2 August and there are more good things coming from Kyle in the future.
